 MoiraH: and Tapio

Maggi: That must be a wonderful place to be

 LeanneMM hugs Moira and Maggi

 MoiraH: Hi Vance

 ClaireB hugs vance

MoiraH: Where are you now Leanne?

 TapioH: Hello Moira

 LeanneMM hugs Vance

ClaireB: i just told maggi that you probably wouldn't be here, vance

 TapioH: Hi Leanne

 VanceS: wow

 VanceS: hugs

VanceS hugs and shakes hands as appropriate

LeanneMM: Still in Kamloops, Moira, but now moved into the bus in our
 driveway

 LeanneMM: Hi Tapio

ClaireB: i tried to stay awake for the session in the alex library, but i
fell asleep one hour before :-()

MoiraH: ah, so when is the big day?

ClaireB: living in the bus, leanne?

LeanneMM: Very soon, that's why I'm here

VanceS: I've written a description of the session

 MoiraH -)

 ClaireB: i saw buth's photos

LeanneMM: yes, Claire, we're driving to Mexico in our converted Greyhound

MoiraH: with the cat of course?

 ClaireB: way cool, leanne

 LeanneMM: you bet!

 VanceS: moving to mexico?

 LeanneMM: yep

 ClaireB: where in mexico?

 VanceS: where?

MoiraH: wonderful that it is now becoming reality

 LeanneMM: i dunno

LeanneMM: yes, Moira, the plans are coming together

VanceS: I've always thought the real mexico, the interesting part, begins
 at about Oaxaca

VanceS: now they'\ve got that fascist governor in Oaxaca though

LeanneMM: yes, we like Oaxaca too - and many other of the colonial cities

Maggi: How did your Japanese visitors enjoy Finland Tapio?

LeanneMM: in my advanced age, I find I can't take heat and humidity,
though, so we may look for somewhere temperate

 VanceS: Chiapas

TapioH: Maggi, they love Lapland. they have sent their students here two
 times now

LeanneMM: say, San Cristobal de las Casas, Vance?

LeanneMM: that's one of our possibilities

VanceS: It's been a while since I've been there

VanceS: but it's really nice, or was

TapioH: I helped them to organize the visits - with the help of three
 hearmasters here

 TapioH: headmasters

LeanneMM: yes, we liked it a lot too when we were there last, and friends
of ours spent several months there they liked it so well

TapioH: Next winter they'd like to send 40 children from Okinawa

TapioH: which is a big number for our schools i think

 HalaH joined the room.

LeanneMM: I actually have a question about Macs, if anyone - Claire? - can
 help...

 LeanneMM: Hi Hala

 LeanneMM hugs Hala

 ClaireB: hi hala

 ClaireB hugs hala

Maggi: Very often they say culturewise, the Japanese and Finnish get along
really well because they are both very quiet

 TapioH: Hello HalaH

 MoiraH -)Hala

ClaireB: are you very quiet, tapio?

ClaireB: leanne, what is your Mac question?

 HalaH: Hello all

 Maggi hugs IIHala

 HalaH: Hi Maggi( hugs back)

 KathyCh joined the room.

 VanceS: hi hala

VanceS: thanks a lot for coming yesterday

 ClaireB: hi kaTH

TapioH: Claire, my favorite is "quae tacent, clamant"

 HalaH: Hi Vance

MoiraH: How was the whole session Vance?

VanceS: I remember Moira and Hala being there.

 ClaireB: i was too sleepy

VanceS: Can you remember who else was present?

MoiraH: now you've 'slept' on it

 MoiraH: Graham, Sasha

VanceS: I wrote a report on the flight back

VanceS: it was a very interesting session

 MoiraH: wow!  Speedy Gonzales

VanceS: the f2f folks loved it

TapioH: Claire, mothers used to teach their kids to be silent - unless
 asked something

VanceS: it was a comedy of errors

ClaireB: well, we say 'children should be seen and not heard."

MoiraH: I like the expression ;-)

Maggi: I am happy to hear the exchanges are going well Tapio

MoiraH: so, what was the greatest error on the day?

MoiraH: or was it just a 'blended comedy'

TapioH: Maggi, the headmasters of the city of rovaniemi are going to Japan
now, so the motivation is ok

VanceS: my laptop failed to charge

VanceS: that was a big problem

 ClaireB: uh oh

HalaH: Leanne, are you still in Canada?

 MoiraH -(((((

VanceS: we had several computers, we mixed and matched

Maggi: I think the children are benefiting the most

 ClaireB: i love it

LeanneMM: Yes, Hala, but setting out for Mexico very soon

ClaireB: are you retired now, leanne?

 KathyCh left the room.

LeanneMM: no Claire, I just took a year LOA from my job, but am hoping to
settle in Mexico and teach EFL

HalaH: Good luck. The sun shine is waiting for you!

 LeanneMM: Thanks, Hala

ClaireB: i'm sure that you'll be able to find work there, leanne

MoiraH: Vance, what were the f2f people most interested in?  Anything in
particular or a general interest in everything?

Maggi: Are you sad about the days getting shorter Tapio?

VanceS: most interested in Second Life

MoiraH: I should have gueseed ;-)

 MoiraH: guessed

ClaireB: was the audience just from alex or from other places too?

TapioH: Maggi, getting dark has not much effect on me - but i did buy new
 energy saving lightbulbs...

VanceS: It was an interesting conference, environmentalists talking about
 sustainability

VanceS: looking for ways to get the word out

Maggi: Well that's one step in the right direction ... great!!!!!!!!

VanceS: very interested in aggregation and tagging and applying these
techniques to community formation and distance learning

MoiraH: where have you posted your report, Vance?

 Maggi: Something everyone should do

VanceS: I've got an email open now

MoiraH: it would be interesting to read it

 VanceS: I might blog it

VanceS: yeah, I'll send a draft to webheads email

 VanceS: give me a sec

ClaireB left the room (signed off).

 ClaireB joined the room.

LeanneMM: Hi Claire, I thought I lost you

ClaireB: sorry, i closed a different window and it kicked me out

Maggi: Have communities in Finland thought about using solar in the summer
 Tapio?

MoiraH: Leanne, I'm not a Mac expert so I can't really offer help there
but what was your question anyway?

TapioH: not in large numer but private citizens have soler pnels already.
it's growing, same thing with the wind

 NinaTL joined the room.

LeanneMM: THanks Moira, it's actually for a friend who has just gotten a
mac and is trying to Skype with it

 MoiraH: Hi Nina!

 LeanneMM: Hi Nina

 LeanneMM hugs Nina

 NinaTL: Hi guys!

 NinaTL hugs everybody

 NinaTL: Sorry I'm late

MoiraH: ah, now that works because I have learners who are Mac users and
 we skype together

 ClaireB: hi nina

 ClaireB hugs nina

LeanneMM: When we try to start a voice chat with her on Skype, it doesn't
allow her the opportunity to accept the call or not, it just rings through

ClaireB issues a tardy slip to nina

Maggi: And I know some communities here have gone completely energy
independent with solar and wind and wind power

VanceS: ok, I've sent the report out to webheads list

NinaTL: Hello, Tapio, nice to meet you

 MoiraH: great Vance

VanceS: would anyone not on the list want to see it?

ClaireB: we don't want to read no stinkin' report

 NinaTL: haha Claire!

LeanneMM: Claire has suggested to me that it's in preferences that you can
set that, but her screen must be different than ours (pc)

ClaireB: sounds too much like work

TapioH: Hello NinaTL, greetings from Finland

 MoiraH: why not Vance?

ClaireB is actually very interested in reading report

VanceS: this report is a unique and interesting one

NinaTL: I was in Finland once, long ago, en route to the USSR

VanceS: whatever could go wrong did

ClaireB: why don't you put it on your blog then so that others can read
 it?

VanceS: on the other hand, a lot went right

VanceS: to claire - because I haven't had time to get beyond draft one or
 contextualize it

MoiraH: Leanne, from memory I know there is a plug in for Macusers and
skype and all I can say is that it works as I have regular group meetings
with learners who are Mac users and I'm pc

VanceS: but maybe I'll try and do that son

 VanceS: soon

TapioH: Maggi I've red that we have communities, which have the very same
 aim...

NinaTL: Leanne, are you still in Kamloops?  What's happening with your
 move?

 Maggi: sustainability

LeanneMM: Thanks, Moira, I 'm sure there must be some work around, but as
I say, she's not very computer literate, and we of course don't have the
same Mac set up that she has, so have a hard time talking her through it

LeanneMM: Yes, Nina, still in Kamloops, but expecting to leave ewithin a
 couple of weeks.

LeanneMM: That's why I came today to let you all know

ClaireB: gee vance, no time? what have you been doing with yourself?

ClaireB: well leanne you'll still have internet access in mexico, won't
 you?

MoiraH: Vance, I recently wrote something about my own disaster recovery
and if anything, it makes you feel better, because something will always
go wrong and that's what people should know.

LeanneMM: The China venture is off, Nina, so we're driving our bus to
Mexico, as we had originally planned

NinaTL: Sounds exciting!  Will you be blogging about it?

LeanneMM: yes, I thought that would be the best way to keep everybody
 informed

VanceS: did you blog your moira?

NinaTL: Great!  Have you created the blog yet?

VanceS: and Leanne's blog will be interesting

 LeanneMM: "my moira"?

LeanneMM: no, I haven't started the new blog yet

NinaTL: How will we know what the url is?

MoiraH: No Vance, it's part of a future article at the moment, but I could
 blog it eventually later

LeanneMM: I'll come by again and let you know

 NinaTL: OK

 ClaireB: good deal

NinaTL: I hope not to miss it!

NinaTL: Moira, which disaster are you writing about?

MoiraH: all disasters when you're live online with people around the gobe
 depending on technologies ;-)

MoiraH: oh dear, not gGobe but globe

 NinaTL: I like gobe

 MoiraH loves Nina

 NinaTL loves Moira

 ClaireB: we all love nina

 NinaTL is blushing

NinaTL: Have any of you guys explored Twitter Blocks

 NinaTL: I don't udnerstand it

 NinaTL: under*

ClaireB: yes i did yesterday, and i'm so relieved that someone else
 doesn't understand it either

ClaireB: i think it is supposed to show how twitter followers are
 connected to one anotehr

NinaTL: "    *  Discover new people on your Twitter block by navigating
through this animated three dimensional visualization of who follows whom.

 NinaTL: Other Devices"

NinaTL: (didn't mean to include "Other Devices"

 BarbaraS1 joined the room.

 NinaTL: Hi Bobbi

 MoiraH: Hi Barbara

 BarbaraS1: Hi everybody

 ClaireB hugs bobbi

 ClaireB: hi bobbi

NinaTL: Have you come to tell Vance to go home and eat?  What's for
 dinner?

 BarbaraS1: Bobbi hugs back

 MoiraH: Babababababarang Bobbi :-)

 BarbaraS1: ;)

 PatrickMu joined the room.

 BarbaraS1: dinner is pasta

 NinaTL: lol

ClaireB: probably vance will cook the dinner

NinaTL: with red sauce? (my favorite)

 BarbaraS1: yep red sauce

 NinaTL: Yum!

 MoiraH: Hi Patrick

 ClaireB: hi patrick

 NinaTL: Hello Patrick

 BarbaraS1: Hi Patrick

NinaTL: So Claire, could you make any sense of Twitter Block?

 PatrickMu left the room.

 ClaireB: not too much

LeanneMM: Moira, what was that about a plug in for the mac?  Claire is
trying to help me find "preferences" to reset that

NinaTL: I'm trying to add twitter to my facebook

VanceS: it's just occurred to me that the laptop that is down right now,
no recharge, is the one that has the VPN

VanceS: so I can't twitter argghhh

ClaireB: vance can't twitter vance can't twitter nyah nyah

Maggi left the room (signed off).

 BarbaraS1: and I cant skype

NinaTL: But it won't let me do it!

 BarbaraS1: or twitter

VanceS: something in skype is crashing IE on our Toshiba laptop

 BarbaraS1: the new one?

VanceS: and we can't fix it because we can't reach skype from here to
 download the fix

 VanceS: ya

 BarbaraS1: I don't use IE

MoiraH: Just read the comedy of errors - GREAT!!!!

 BarbaraS1: on that computer

VanceS: good thing, me neither now

ClaireB: i gotta go guys == see ya next week!

NinaTL: Me either although it (IE) pops up sometimes without my wanting it
 to

 MoiraH: a helter skelter ride

 BarbaraS1: use Mozilla

 NinaTL: That was fast, Claire

NinaTL: Nice to see you, have a good wekk!

BarbaraS1: yes it does on mine too

ClaireB left the room (signed off).

BarbaraS1: I think we have to take off the computer completely

VanceS: that's what it's doing on the Toshiba Nina

 BarbaraS1: uninstall

 VanceS: might uninstall skype

LeanneMM: Moira, what can you tell me about the plugin for the Mac to use
 Skype?

VanceS: apparently there is a later version that fixes the problem

BarbaraS1: yeah, may as well since it's blocked here

 MoiraH: Not much Leanne

 NinaTL: Sorry, Vance?  Toshiba?

 VanceS: yes, our toshiba laptop

LeanneMM: oh, do you think if she looked in the help, it would actually
 help?

BarbaraS1: do you have it with you?

MoiraH: As you say, there are different versions of mac but look through
 the skype page

VanceS: I'm in Mozilla and IE is popping up

BarbaraS1: I hate it when you try to close IE

MoiraH: yes, if you dig around

LeanneMM: it seems their toolbar is different - Claire was telling me to
look under preferences, but I don't see that with my pc version

LeanneMM: that's the trouble, Moira, our friend with the mac is not too
computer literate, so hesitates to dig around

MoiraH: We need Elderbob or Dennis here for Macs

BarbaraS1: i have an IMac at work and I have never figured out a lot of
 its features

LeanneMM: it's not THAT much of a problem, at least not for us, but just
when we initiate a voice chat, it starts up her mic and webcam.  Just hope
she isn't doing nude calisthenics in front of the computer one dady

 LeanneMM: *day

 NinaTL: What a horrific thought!

 LeanneMM: I know!!

MoiraH: ah well for that seh just has to go to tools options and switch
off the automatic running of the webcam

LeanneMM lloks for that on her pc version

MoiraH: and it depends on what version of skype she is using

BarbaraS1: I wonder about the Toshiba...if we can run the mic without the
 cam

 BarbaraS1: its builtin

 JoanneF joined the room.

MoiraH: I never download the recent versions until they've 'run' a bit and
I only updated mine yesterday from an older and stable version

 MoiraH: Hi Joanne

LeanneMM: well, I must hav an old, stable version that doesn't give me
 that webcam option

 MoiraH: version 3.05.0.229 now

MoiraH: go to "help" then "about skype" to see the version you're using

JoanneF: Hello everyone,  I am brand new to this and would appreciate any
 help

LeanneMM: Thanks Moira, I ws just groping about for that

MoiraH: Tools, then Options then Video Settings and there you can choose
how you want to run your video

MoiraH: this was the same on the older versions

JoanneF left the room (signed off).

TapioH: ok, 16:02 at this end - our universities start next week - gotta
go and get prepared. bye all

TapioH left the room (signed off).

 VanceS: gosh, quick exits

NinaTL: We didn't greet Joanne warmly enough

 NinaTL: I guess

 LeanneMM: Aha, thanks, Moira!

 NinaTL: She was shy

 MoiraH -)

LeanneMM: Claire said this setting was under preferences, so I'm sure it
looks the same on a mac

LeanneMM: Now I have something to tell our friend

LeanneMM: Well, I must go now too...

MoiraH: I do know Leanne that the layout can be different with Macs so
 it's difficult sometimes

MoiraH: especially with EFL learners ;-)

LeanneMM: We are going to a wedding out of town next weekend, so I can't
be online next Sunday, and we might be on the road after that, and not
 sure where we can hookup

MoiraH: but a great way to improve one's English

 MoiraH: Bye Leanne

NinaTL: Leanne, you are going to have to explore the world of internet
 cafes

LeanneMM: you bet, Moira, what do they call that...???

VanceS: Are you guys participating in the Virtual Strand coming up?

 LeanneMM: teachable moments?

MoiraH: Yes, I'm going back to France, setting up my computer and will be
there for the Virtual Strand :-)

NinaTL: back to France?  Where are you?

 MoiraH: in England

LeanneMM: or, you know, where there is an actual "use" for speaking
 English in accomplishing something else

NinaTL wonders what the Virtual Strand is

VanceS: great, I need to revise my paper and work on my pageflakes

 VanceS: SOON

NinaTL: Vance, I tried Pageflakes but couldn't get it to cooperate

NinaTL: It isn't as easy as you make it seem!

VanceS: EuroCALL coleraine virtual strand will get you there

VanceS: if you need help with p/flakes just let us know

HalaH left the room (signed off).

LeanneMM: So I'll sne an email to the YG with our blog address, to let you
all know...and feel free to chat if you see me online

 LeanneMM: *send

 NinaTL: great, Leanne

NinaTL: Have a good preparatory week(s) and I hope the drive is smooth

LeanneMM: who knows?  one day I might actually get to teach EFL and really
have something in common with you all :-)

 LeanneMM: Thanks, Nina

 VanceS: enjoy leanne

 VanceS: sounds like fun

VanceS: what's the reason for the move?

 MoiraH: Take care!

LeanneMM: bye for now...hasta la vista!  (just changins our "where" of
life, Vance, now that I've turned 50)

NinaTL: I think you have lots in common with all of us already

 LeanneMM: Thanks again, Nina

 NinaTL: Buen viaje!

 LeanneMM hugs all around

LeanneMM left the room (signed off).

MoiraH: I am going to leave you now as I have to say some goodbyes here
 and get packed

 BarbaraS1: bye and good luck

MoiraH: Take care all and see you next week perhaps

NinaTL: Nice to see you here, my dear

MoiraH: Bye Bobbi, Vance and Nina!

 BarbaraS1: thans u2

 BarbaraS1: bye

 MoiraH: Bye :-)))

 VanceS: bye M

MoiraH left the room (signed off).

 VanceS: thanks for coming yesterday

 VanceS: too late

 VanceS: short session tonight

BarbaraS1: have not seen Dennis lately

NinaTL: How did it go, vance? Sorry I wasn't there--busy

BarbaraS1: Did you read his writeup?

 BarbaraS1: sounded hectic

BarbaraS1: but all in all, think it went well

 VanceS: i think so too

VanceS: it would be interesting to know what online folks thot

 VanceS: f2f it was fine

 VanceS: but hectic

VanceS: anything else you want to do now Nina?

NinaTL: We are all by ourselves!

NinaTL: I am simultaneously playing with Facebook.

VanceS: yeah, good chance if you need anything

 VanceS: have you added us?

NinaTL: What I need is help putting a gmail button on my toolbar in Vista

NinaTL: Maybe not... I have Glenn for some reason

 NinaTL: Let me check

 NinaTL: I don't think so

NinaTL: You don't show up in my gmail list.  Don't know why.

NinaTL: I can't find you on my list of 448 gmail contacts not on facebook

 VanceS: i'm at vstevens@pi.ac.ae

NinaTL: Is tehre a more efficient way to do this?

NinaTL: How to add you though?  I only see "find friends"

 VanceS: hmmm

 VanceS: let's see

BarbaraS1: i dont use Facebook much

 BarbaraS1: so I don't really know

VanceS: I kind of respond to people

 NinaTL: Me, too

VanceS: now Bobbi is the expert

NinaTL: I am just beginning to get more into it

 BarbaraS1: i am?

 BarbaraS1: lol

 BarbaraS1: it's our kids

VanceS: yeah, you seem pretty good with it

BarbaraS1: they put up pics and everything

NinaTL: That's why Glenn is one of my :friends"

BarbaraS1: oh i think i know how to get you then

NinaTL: I got started because one of the mentors for last year's AGU in
America program posted all his photos on facebook, and I wanted to view
 them

VanceS: I'm checking out find your friends

BarbaraS1: i think if I find you on Glenn's friend list

 BarbaraS1: I can invite

 NinaTL: OK

NinaTL: I'll wait to be contacted by you then

NinaTL: What about the gmail button? Any ideas on that?

 BarbaraS1: in Vista?

VanceS: it doesn't let you add a friend by his/her user name?

 VanceS: or email address?

VanceS: has to be in your guest book?

NinaTL: On my old computer and work computer (XP), I put a button on my
toolbar for gmail--so I can go there directly, not via my home page

 VanceS: sorry, contacts list?

NinaTL: but I can't figure out how to get it up there in Vista

 NinaTL: Same problem with MyBookmarks

 NinaTL: Apparently (email list)

BarbaraS1: ok I have requested your friendship in Facebook

 NinaTL: OK

BarbaraS1: but I don't know about the GMail button since our Vista
computer is really new and Vance has it right now

NinaTL: "Status Updates" in facebook is just like Twitter

VanceS: how did you do it, expert?

 VanceS: AHEM

BarbaraS1: I found her on Glenn's list of friends

NinaTL: Aha, vance, if you ever figure that out, please let me know

 VanceS: Bobbi? How?

BarbaraS1: next to her pic it gives some options and one is to invite as
 frined

 SisterPatM joined the room.

 BarbaraS1: friend

 VanceS: friends?

 NinaTL: Hello, Sister Pat

 BarbaraS1: yes, friend

BarbaraS1: get into your facebook account

 VanceS: and then what

 BarbaraS1: then click on Glenn

NinaTL: Some of my friends may be relatives

NinaTL: This morning I tried something new: adding an event

BarbaraS1: then view all of Glenn's friends

VanceS: friend list .. find friends

SisterPatM left the room (signed off).

NinaTL: I announced the chat I have planned for AGU in America staff and
 participants on Sept 28/29

 BarbaraS1: find Nina's picture in Glenn's account

BarbaraS1: you did that on Facebook?

NinaTL: but it was kind of irritating because of the required fields

NinaTL: I had to put a location that consisted on a city and stat

BarbaraS1: do live in the States?

NinaTL: It would not accept a url or "cyberspace"

BarbaraS1: We have lots of problems when the required field is a state or
 zipcode

NinaTL: And i had to choose an event type from a very short list of things
like "flea market", "carnival", etc--very weird

 BarbaraS1: haha

NinaTL: So I said it was a flea market!

BarbaraS1: that should get attention anyway

NinaTL: Also the time was a problem because this chat will take place at 2
 gmt

NinaTL: It's on a different day in Maryland and Tokyo and of course, at
 different times

NinaTL: Facebook is not set up for that sort of thing

 VanceS: ok got it

 VanceS: thanks, expert

NinaTL: But it does allow me to reach some of the kids who haven't
registered for our yahoo group, but are on facebook

 BarbaraS1: lol

NinaTL: Eventually Facebook may be the preferred way to keep in touch

BarbaraS1: yes, like my old student helper who went to college found me on
 Facebook and re reconnected

BarbaraS1: He told me all about his parents divorcing, etc.

NinaTL: I have submitted a proposal to TESOL about this kind of thing,
interacting with our students befiore and after their summer program

BarbaraS1: It used to be difficult

NinaTL: It's interesting how many people use Facebook

 BarbaraS1: to keep in touch

BarbaraS1: all most everybody!  Even our cat has a Facebook account!

NinaTL: The problem is that I don't always like to reveal the same things
about myself and my life to all my different audiences (former students,
present students, webheads, first cousins once removed....)

 NinaTL: The cat?

 NinaTL: LOL

NinaTL: My daughter started high school last week

BarbaraS1: yeah his is popular too

NinaTL: an anxious time for us

 BarbaraS1: the cat that is

BarbaraS1: our son just graduated from uni

 NinaTL: That's wonderful

BarbaraS1: yes, we are glad for him

NinaTL: Vicki is unlikely to attend college

NinaTL: or even graduate from high school, the way things are going

 BarbaraS1: oh dear

BarbaraS1: maybe she will find direction

NinaTL: It is not direction that she lacks but she has disabilities

BarbaraS1: well, I hope the best for her

BarbaraS1: is the school helpful in any way?

VanceS: bobbi is a kg1 educator

VanceS: maybe she knows something about it

 BarbaraS1: I teach 4 year olds

 BarbaraS1: 4 and 5

NinaTL: Vicki has had an IEP since she was 3 1/2

NinaTL: but we only got what seems to be a correct label in May

 NinaTL: nonverbal learning disorder (NLD)

NinaTL: but now it seems that she also fits the profile for Asperger's

 NinaTL: excuse me phone call

 BarbaraS1: sure np

 NinaTL: OK

NinaTL: Do you have any special needs kids in your class?

BarbaraS1: not here, but I did in the States

 BarbaraS1: in pre-K

NinaTL: Have you heard of NLD before?  The SPED teachers we had did not
 recognize it

BarbaraS1: often one of the hardest parts IS getting the diagnosis

NinaTL: Nobody suggested it might be the problem but when I read about it
it seemed almost axactly like her

NinaTL: Yes, but 12 years seems excessive

BarbaraS1: you probably know her best....yes 12 years is a long time to
 wait

NinaTL: Now I am trying to tease apart the difference between NLD and AS

BarbaraS1: so maybe you saw something they missed

 NinaTL: They seem almost identical

NinaTL: Asperger's is more well-mnown now and is in the DSM-IV while NLD
 is not

NinaTL: What I have read so far seems to say that the experts have not
figured out yet if they are the same or not

BarbaraS1: yes, I have known several children with mild aspergers

NinaTL: Maybe AS is a severe type of NLD

BarbaraS1: is she in the mainstream classroom?

 NinaTL: Yes, she is

NinaTL: Here in Maryland inclusion is the way to go

 BarbaraS1: i think it's best too

NinaTL: When she was little she was in a self-contained classroom with
 limited mainstreaming

NinaTL: When she was 6 we wanted to include her in general ed classes, tos
ee how she would do with "normal" role models

BarbaraS1: I think that was wise

NinaTL: (the kids in her self-contained class had little or no language)

NinaTL: but middle school was very very difficult

 BarbaraS1: the subjects get harder

VanceS: I'm going to log out, come home

NinaTL: Unlike typical NLD and AS kids, her verbal score is only low
 average

 VanceS: cya

 NinaTL: Bye Vance

 BarbaraS1: bye

 NinaTL: Have a good wekk

VanceS left the room (signed off).
